We are broken to have to announce that we lost the Patriarch of our group, Rich Hattenberg on Friday, Sept. 7, 2018. Please say a prayer for his family and our brother, his son, Eric Hattenberg. Sidestreet will never be the same.
SIGHC is proud to bring back Sidestreet. Come to The Roadhouse at 1400 Clove Road, Staten Island for a great show. You MUST make reservations, the place fills up very quickly. Call 718-447-0033. See you there!
Sidestreet just finished our tri-state tour; we sang at South Philly String Band Doowop, Philadelphia, PA, Joe Broadways Restaurant, Staten Island, NY (where Harry proposed marriage to Betty and gave her a ring with all the doowoppers in attendance), (she said YES), and at The Paramus Elks, Paramus, NJ
What a wonderful honor to be invited to all these places. We thank you all for coming. Here are some photos and videos of those shows
Sidestreet appeared on 3/24/18 at the New England Doowop Society working with Magic Touch and The Majors. What a show! This was THE best; the sound system was impeccable, and the crowd was wild!! What a weekend! Thank you Bob and Gary!
Sidestreet did a few at the SIGHC March Madness on Staten Island on 3/18/18
This was a great show to follow the snow and cold. We had a full house and so much talent in the audience. Thank you all for coming and for dancing. I will post a couple of videos of some of Sidestreet's faves taken by good friend Richard Zielinski.
Sidestreet appeared at Goodfellas in Queens on 1/14/18 along with The Cookies - what a great day!!! And a full house - thank you all who showed up from NJ and Staten Island. Here are a couple of videos from that day! Thank you Alex and Jackie for having us.
Sidestreet appeared on Island Hop, Staten Island Cable TV produced by Ed Salek. Here is the show in its entirety.
Sidestreet's appearance on November 15, 2017 at Philadelphia String Band was like no other. Never have we had such a receptive audience. Thank you to all the staff at Philly String Band Club for everything you did for us. We will perform ONLY acappella at Roxy & Dukes on December 3, and will appear at Goodfella's in Queens on January 14, 2018 and at Town & Country on January 21. Lastly (at the moment), come to Springfield MA on March 24, 2018 when we perform at The New England Doowop Society show!
Had a perfect evening opening up for The Cameos at Roxy and Dukes on 7/30/17. We will be appearing there with Quiet Storm on Dec. 3 - you have enough notice - write it down, come see us all!!
Betty Semel, originally from Brooklyn, began her singing career by starting an all female doowop acappella group called StreetHeart in 1998. They worked for 10 years opening up for some of the biggest acts on the doowop circuit. Now she works with Smooth Jim Reilly where they sing doowop music and oldies standards in the NJ Shore area. She is working as lead singer and often doing background harmony with Sidestreet.
Harry Van "Hoboken Harry" started singing doowop in the 1960's. He was the founding member of The Gold Tones and is an original member of Echoes of Time. Currently he is a member of Grand Central Echoes and is a founding member, as well, of Sidestreet, singing first tenor.
Eric Hattenberg "The Doowop Kid" began his musical career at an early age under the influence of his father, Rich. Eric has had the pleasure of performing with such artists as Johnny Maestro, The Duprees, The Dubs, The Happenings, and The Goodfellas. He was also a member of the Frankie Valli tribute group, The Jersey Four, performing various harmony roles and vocal arrangements. Eric is a former member of Sky's the Limit and is now singing with Grand Central Echoes as second tenor. He is the baritone and the bass (or as we call it - the bassitone) for Sidestreet and he works magic with his engineering talent as our musical arranger.
